The city of Tampere in Finland will host the northernmost and first-ever World Padel Tour event in the land of the midnight sun when the Tampere Padel Exhibition takes place during the weeks of nightless nights from the 30th of June to the 3rd of July 2022.

“2022 is the biggest and the most international circuit in the history of the World Padel Tour. It’s great to finally have the tournament in Finland as well. We look forward to what the northernmost World Padel Tour tournament of all time has to offer us,“ comments Mario Hernando, CEO of World Padel Tour.

Padel is the fastest growing sport also in Finland

Finland with a population of just over 5,5 million has over 60 000 players and over 650 courts. With this growth pace, these numbers will be over 100 000 players and over 1000 courts in 2023. Finland also offers exotic outdoor game experiences during the summertime when the sun does not go down and padel players can play the game in natural light all night.

“Finland is living the padel fever. It’s exciting to finally get an official WPT event to Finland and especially during the midsummer weeks of nightless nights,” says Aleksi Jäntti, the Deputy Mayor of the city of Tampere.

Legendary Hakametsä Arena will host the tournament

Tampere is located in Western Finland just two hours from the capital Helsinki. The Exhibition event will be held at the legendary Tampere Ice Stadium, or Hakametsä, as the locals know it.

Hakametsä is the oldest hockey arena in Finland and had its first game played in 1965. The venue has hosted several prestigious sports events such as European and World Championships of boxing, wrestling and ice hockey. With its capacity for 7 300 spectators, it’s the perfect place to host the first Finnish World Padel Tour event.
